Trevor Bates' career was delayed by World War 2 - he was a Spitfire pilot and won the DFC.
He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art [1947-51] and with Zadkine in Paris [1952].
He was an international prize winner at the 'Unknown Political Prisoner' sculpture competition in 1953.
One of the lesser known 'Geometry of Fear' artists, portraying spiky and surreal animals and figures.
Three one-man exhibitions were held at the Waddington Galleries in 1959 and the early 1960s.
He moved to Canada in 1967, which pretty much ended his very promising career.
An extremely interesting sculptor - one of the very few modern sculptors specialising in animals and birds
